Why the Professional Directory
The Professionals Directory has been set up:

MOST IMPORTANTLY, it’s designed to be transparent to CLIENTS about their counsellor’s qualifications and to provide assurance that the therapist they work with is appropriately trained for their specific needs.
Many people, including professionals, are unaware that Counselling and Psychotherapy are UNREGULATED professions! Anyone could decide that they would like to be a counsellor/psychotherapist, call themselves one, create some business cards and a website and start seeing clients…. without training, without qualifications and without insurance….. and this is perfectly legal! All of this, of course, means that there may be no legal or reparative consequence should anything go wrong.
The Professionals Directory has been created to protect clients from this unregulated status and help to protect them from untrained, unqualified and unscrupulous therapists.
Who We Provide Counselling To

Children (Under 11)
Our child specialists are trained in creative therapeutic methods to work with children according to their age and stage of development. This is important because creativity and play are a child’s primary methods of communication. These creative methods enable the therapist to assess the child's therapeutic progress.

Young People (11-17)
Our young person specialists are trained to communicate with young people at this critical time including a range of creative methods for those who find talking tough. These creative methods enable the therapist to assess the child's therapeutic progress.

Adults
Individual therapy for over 18’s. The Professionals Directory has therapists reflecting a wide range of different theoretical modalities and psychotherapeutic models.

Relationship/Couples
Relationship counselling. This is usually between an intimate couple, however, can be between any other close relationship, for example, a parent and child.

Families
The therapist works with the family unit, as a collective. The aim is to bring about understanding and improve communication between family members and facilitate change within relationships.
